Exxon is killing us

While the economy is coming to a screeching halt one company continues to post record profits on the backs of Americans. Once again Exxon has posted the largest quarterly profit in the history of history. Breaking IT’S OWN RECORD Exxon posted nearly a 12 billion dollar profit.

HOUSTON – Exxon Mobil Corp. reported second-quarter earnings of $11.68 billion Thursday, the biggest quarterly profit ever by any U.S. corporation.

What’s even more shocking is that this number doesn’t meet expectation! They were expecting MORE.

The next time you need to fill up.. drive past that Exxon Mobil station. Just for kicks. Because you know what?…they’re raping you at the pump and returning NOTHING. It’s criminal that the Supreme Court reduced their Exxon Valdez penalties. They spend tens of MILLIONS of dollars on anti-global warming propaganda even awarding prizes to “scientists” to dispute global warming. They dictate our energy policies and to a large extent our foreign policy. They essentially dictate White House policy as well. The money that they actually spend on a renewable energy and oil exploration is a joke. They don’t spend much in exploration because it’s widely known that the locations of global reserves have largely been identified. When asked about investing in renewable energy technologies, an Exxon official said that, apart from ethanol, it’s generally not part of the company’s plan. “There are very few that are economical without subsidies,” said Henry Hubble, vice president for investor relations, on a conference call. “We don’t think it makes sense to invest in it at this point.”

… what a shock! An OIL company completely uninterested in using anything but OIL!

The American people and the government need to wake up to this corporatism. I support the windfall profit tax. It’s the only way we can get free of foreign oil. The US government needs to spearhead this effort because we CANNOT afford to wait for a corporation interested solely in it’s own profiteering to make the effort to move civilization into a new and better direction.

So when you hear Bush and McCain talk about off shore drilling.. know this.. it will NOT lower gas prices and will ONLY increase profits for big oil. Remember…they’re the ones dictating policy here.
