In An Absolut World
I have to say that people who are outraged by the Absolut Vodka advertisement should be… because they’re morons.
I work in advertising and I think the ad is brilliant. Not so much for the idea and execution but for the completely over-the-top buzz that it has created. I don’t think there is single major news outlet that isn’t following this story. In my opinion there really is no story. It’s an ADVERTISEMENT. Furthermore it’s an advertisement using a map that ACTUALLY EXISTED prior to the Mexican-American War. The idiocy of these critics amazes me. Most of the outrage is coming from right wing crazies (see Michelle Malkin) and their minions (like this idiot).
I wonder if they showed a map of the United States prior to the Louisiana Purchase or maybe just the 13 original colonies if there would be such an outrage? I’m guessing no. Why? Because the right THRIVES on xenophobia. What else can they thrive on?? Healthcare? The great progress of the Wars? the booming economy? nah.. easier to blame it on other people.. namely those guys down south coming over here..picking our crops and breathing all of our air.

The problem with this ad is saying, “In An Absolut World”. This ad is saying in an absolut world this is what it would look like today. This company knew what they were doing as has since stopped the ad and apologized.
What would happen if they ran this same ad but used Islam as the joke? Liberals would be saying that the ad was not sensative to Islam and you would have riots in the streets of some Islamic cities calling for the deaths of people.
And once again you jump on the economy which the housing market has nothing to do with anything political.

I do not say religion was being offended, I was just making an example about the ad if it was in the Islamic world.
Nothing is offensive to me because I do not have thin skin like many republicans and democrats. But I think the ad speaks to the mexicans and says take back “your land”. Now will anything like that happen, no. But it just adds fuel to the fire.
As you see from the modern day Republicans learn from history-Fighting terrorism and evil before it reaches the nexuis like Nazi Germent. But democrats fail to do so-Carter meeting with a terrorist leader.

If anyone actually follows up on this, I suppose I owe a little bit of clarification.
Admittedly, I was hammered when i wrote that. Drunk and shocked at what I was reading.
The word “realist” is probably the most delusional in the English language, being that it presupposes that your POV is beyond criticism or correction. Anyone who is so bold to claim such perspective is either ignorant, or has attained an omnipresence beyond mortal achievement. I’m pretty sure it’s not the latter.
To address the flailing arguments on both sides of some of these issues (ie: racism, healthcare, immigration, etc.), I find it impossible to take anything seriously when neither side seems to be willing to acknowledge that there are problems that need fixing.
The man of the hour just walked in, so I’ll get back to you on this, in the meantime, try not to get arrested for male prositution or illicit drugs.

Apparently taking barbs at whether one is liberal or conservatives is somehow reduced to the same level as making offensive remarks towards homosexuals and is on the same level concerns me.
I’m a Jew, American, private Eastern college, veteran, registered DEMOCRAT and also gay. So ya know – whatever. My Jewish German grandfather sure appreciated those “hypocritical, igonorant, self-indulgant, obnoxious bunch of complete and total retards” since they saved his LIFE in WWII. It wasn’t that long ago Asstray.
I just think the ad was tasteless. And who is Sweden to make such garbage? I wonder if ABBA would have existed if the Swastika was hanging over Stockholm. Let’s redefine the borders under those conditions? Honestly – no one cares. ABBA – I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Everything else aside, it really is a great ad. Like most of you (I think) I don’t agree with the implication… that the world should BE that way… but at the same time it’s my kind of slap in the face to the masses. Good shock-value humor. Realist (i still disdain that title) makes a good point with the pre-WWII map of Europe. If someone hasn’t made that on the internet already, someone should. It would be hilarious. (think Mr. Show’s “Hitlers” sketch hilarious… “poor man’s wallpaper.” Brilliant.)
